About us
Supporting the local community is extremely important to the team at Ely Data Quality Ltd.
Our staff generally have a strong background in Science and IT. One of the team has helped as a tutor on a pro bono basis for various youngsters studying for their GCSEs and A-Levels in Chemistry, Physics and Biology. The looks on the students’ faces when they pass with higher grades than they were predicted by their teachers is reward enough. We are incredibly proud of them all.
Several other members of our team have given up their personal time to support the community. This includes volunteering as parish councillors, sitting as a magistrate, volunteering as a football coach, chairing the Wilburton Beer Festival, chairing the Wilburton School Association, chairing Haddenham’s Community Land Trust and chairing the Strawberry Fair in Cambridge.
In addition, the company has repeatedly donated to the groups, charities and sports teams within the community. At Ely Data Quality we feel so strongly that causes like these should be supported that we always ensure there is an amount put aside for Community Support in our budget each year.
Until now, anonymity has been key to us. Trumpet blowing just isn’t our thing. However, after much debate, we decided that we felt it was important that any prospective clients knew where a proportion of the money from their future invoices would end up.
Ely Data Quality has supported the following causes, listed in alphabetical order, with financial contributions.

A short note on Artificial Intelligence (AI)
While we of course appreciate the enormous recent advances of AI and we see the value it brings to all sorts of applications, we have a strict AI-free policy at Ely Data Quality Ltd. All our advert films are hand-crafted from start to finish. The scripts are carefully written and sent to our illustrator, who lives locally. The voice-overs are all real people, some of whom are our team members. Our website was created by a local business.
Our test cases are all created by hand from our combined years of experience in the field. One of our Unique Selling Points is that we will sit down in person with you and go through every test case together so that you fully understand each example. Testing without expectations is not testing; it is guesswork. We see no worth in processing thousands of test records through a screening system if each of them is simply checking the exact same functional requirement. Every single test case we provide has been carefully thought out and tests real-life screening issues that we have already fixed for other clients.
We will sit down and work with you to set each test case’s expectation so that it is in line with your business requirements.
“Our director completed the New York Marathon and The Great North Run raising over £4,500 for this charity close to his heart. The company ensured the final target was reached.”
“This not-for-profit community interest company is a group of volunteers who all share grave road safety concerns in their local communities. David McCandless works tirelessly with his team of volunteers to assist parish councils and resident groups with their road safety initiatives. They provide assistance with the installation and use of speed signs. The group has also provided funds from successful grant applications to help provide such road signs for dangerous roads. Dave’s help has been instrumental in Haddenham Parish Council’s efforts to address some serious road safety issues in the village. Ely Data Quality was happy to support this group by purchasing vehicle speed data to use in our customer training classes on the software we use day to day.”
“Jack, our youngest team member, plays for the colts and has already made some appearances in the Second XI adult team. Our company sponsored the Haddenham (Cambs) v Haddenham (Bucks) friendly match by providing the bar during the day. On hot sunny days the doctors’ advice is to keep the fluids up so we made this possible by providing the refreshments. The friendly match followed a successful H2H (Haddenham to Haddenham) walking pilgrimage that was completed over 6 days by our director together with the captain of the cricket club. This raised over £9,000 and the Haddenham (Cambs) half of the money was split between the cricket club, the village library and Holly’s Active Stars. We hope to attend the away fixture next year.”
“One of our team managed successive U13s, U14s ad U15s teams, winning the league in the U15 season. The company has also sponsored the kits for two of the teams over successive seasons. The club has seen hundreds of youngsters play from age 5 at the Academy, then on through the mini leagues and the colts leagues, aged 6 through to 17 years old. The club has also had all-girls teams and mixed teams. The parish council has provided a brand new pavilion and playing fields known as the Holly Fairchild Playing Fields in memory of a much missed and much loved former player.”
“The village social hub started off life during the increasingly difficult times around the Covid pandemic. The founders shared a concern that some residents were struggling with the cost of keeping their houses warm enough and being able to pay their bills, both for energy and for food shopping. The Warm Hub was started in the village during winter with initial funds provided by East Cambridgeshire District Council, Cambridgeshire ACRE and Haddenham Parish Council. It was a huge success and made national news. Our company provided further funds to keep the initiative going strong. It is still going with a rebranded identity of Haddenham Social Hub since it is now open all year round. It remains a popular meeting place for several of our residents. The Social Hub team has big plans for the future and we support them all the way.”
“The whole community was deeply saddened when we lost one of our amazing youngsters. Holly was much loved by her football team mates, her friends and the community in general. Holly’s parents set up a charity to help families who are struggling with the insanely high cost of living by providing funds to go towards sports kits, equipment and team fees. Inclusion is incredibly important in sport and our company strongly supports this cause. Throughout the H2H Pilgrimage (Haddenham to Haddenham) our director and a fellow parish councillor, wearing our Holly’s Active Stars T-shirts, walked over 6 days collecting donations and sponsorship on the way. This provided a sizeable contribution to the worthy cause. Holly’s father joined us on the final leg and it was an emotional moment as we reached the Haddenham (Bucks) village sign. The parish council named the new sports pavilion and playing fields in Holly’s memory.”
“The VOCES8 Foundation is a music education charity. They specialise in the inspiration and empowering of individuals though music. The group itself has been going for 20 years. They tour internationally and a range of their music is available commercially, including a 20th anniversary special recording named, appropriately enough, ‘Twenty’. Ely Data Quality Ltd has donated to the foundation as a thank you for their kind permission to use VOCES8’s music in our adverts.”
“The Brownies and Rainbows are part of The Girl Guides. Wilburton Girl Guides have in the past run groups for both Rainbows (for girls aged 4-7) and Brownies (for girls aged 7-10). We have donated in the past to this group via the annual beer festival.

“Several of our team have played for Wilburton Cricket Club across almost all of the age groups. They provide coaching and league matches for young players, with a progression via the Development team, through the Second XI and some of the youngsters, including one of our own, have made it all the way through to the First XI. The first team play in one of the top divisions in the Cambridgeshire league. Ely Data Quality Ltd has donated to sponsor the colts players and also sponsored their portable sight screen.”
“This popular drama group is always either writing, rehearsing or performing a production including the annual village panto. The group was started in 1974 by two village residents and it has gone from strength to strength ever since. It provides fantastic opportunities for both adults and children to have fun and enjoy trying out singing and acting. We are proud to have been able to donate, via the Wilburton Beer Festival, to this group as it does so much for our community.

“In April 2025 the son of one of the EDQ team was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. The team at Addenbrookes looked after him for the time he was in the ward. Their amazing levels of care and support continued afterwards when he returned home. The company wishes to support this team with a donation. One of our directors is in the process of organising a fund-raising cycle ride. The 2026 C2C Pilgrimage (Cherbourg to Calais) will set off next year. The date is still to be arranged as we would very much like our youngest team member, who is still at school, to be able to join us. We will publish more information when the dates and route are finalised.”
“When the beer festival committee were invited to the Milton hospice every single one of us, including 5 or 6 strapping men of over 6 feet, came out in tears. Our respect, admiration and appreciation of the staff who work there is difficult to express. It is a place no family wants to end up, but such places are essential in our society. The staff at EACH are simply amazing. We were honoured to support the beer festival with a donation to this cause, when they raised funds for their primary beneficiary that year.”
“The volunteers at our village library are passionate about encouraging children to read. Each year they hold a ‘Book in a Window’ competition, where they encourage families to tour the village and note the books in the windows of several houses. Many of the windows have fantastic displays based around their chosen book. Some of the windows also have a letter of the alphabet displayed. On collecting all of the letters, those who wish to enter the competition need to work out the anagram of a book title. The winning window display, and the correct anagram answer drawn out of the hat, are awarded book token prizes from Topping and Company book shop of Ely. Our director walked from Haddenham in Cambs to Haddenham in Bucks together with a fellow parish councillor. This raised money for the library and we topped this up with a further company donation to ensure the library reached its target of being able to afford to pay for the changes to the main door to allow disabled access.”
“Our community is blessed to have not just one, but two annual beer festivals. These are held each summer within a few weeks of each other. Both festivals donate their profits to local causes. Our director held the licence for the Wilburton Beer Festival over several years and until he stepped down to concentrate on other projects he also chaired the committee. His quote during an interview on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:
“Is there any better feeling than raising money for local causes while drinking real ale in the sunshine?”
has been often used (with permission!) and sums up the feeling at the festivals. The company donates to both beer festivals each year, knowing that the money will find its way over to the local groups in the villages, some of which are mentioned on this page.”
“The foundation was set up in 2009 in memory of 14 year old Liam Fairhurst who lived locally. Liam personally raised over £350,000 during his treatment for children and their families who have been affected by cancer. Liam was an incredibly brave young man who achieved so much in his young life. Our company sponsored the T-shirts of the Wilburton Beer Festival and the donation was passed straight over to Liam’s foundation. Liam’s family, and in particular his younger brother Callum now aged 28, have continued to raise funds. Callum has also set up his own charity and website called Sibling Support for those brothers and sisters affected by such tragic circumstances.”
“The local scouts do a fantastic job each morning after the two days of the well attended Wilburton Beer Festival each year. They pick up the rubbish of plastic pint pots and discarded pizza boxes to ensure the field is left in an immaculate condition for the morning after. The beer festival donates all profit to local causes and the committee always ensure the scouts get a thank you donation for their hard work. Our company has donated to this cause via the Wilburton Beer Festival.”
“Several of the parents in the village of Wilburton have taken their young children along to this group. Some of those toddlers have grown up and now have their own babies that they take along. It is a place where parents, particularly those newly moved to the area, can meet others and be reassured that most babies don’t actually sleep all of the time, or even when you want them to. We were very happy to donate, via the beer festival, to this group.

“The WSA is the fund-raising wing of Wilburton CofE Primary School. As schools are not permitted to become charities themselves they often have an associated charity, run by volunteers, that raises money to donate back into the school. The WSA helped pay for a beautiful new library, based on local author Robert MacFarlane’s book The Lost Words. They also raised money towards a new mobile classroom. Our company anonymously supported both projects, via charitable donations the WSA, to ensure they got over the line.
